- The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. ... It is Hokusai's most famous work, and one of the most recognizable works of Japanese art in the world.
- The Great Wave off Kanagawa was likely printed between 1829 and 1832. In 1859, a wave of Japanese prints flowed across Europe, winning adoration from the likes of Vincent Van Gogh, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, and Claude Monet.
- The image depicts an enormous wave threatening boats off the coast of the town of Kanagawa (the present-day city of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture). While sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is more likely to be a large rogue wave. As in many of the prints in the series, it depicts the area around Mount Fuji under particular conditions, and the mountain itself appears in the background.
- This poster is printed on a very strong HydroTOUGH Poster. It is a 10 mil (235 gsm) PVC-Free and latex saturated wet strength paper. It’s the ultimate durable poster paper with a bright white satin finish and is environmentally friendly.
